Greetings from the Cape of Storms

I think this is one of our 1st formal forays into Forum life. We will try to maintain a presence here to answer questions and provide information as required.

This will be done either by myself (Francois) or my associate (Malan). My background is that of a avid boater that have seen the light and now refer to myself as a "Hysucat Evangelist"

Malan has designed, built and raced more Hysucat's than anyone else I have come across. If he doesn't know, nobody does.

Hi Francois, it's good to have you and Malan on here. Welcome to RIBnet!

The wiLlfish was gently pointing you to the rules about trade posting on the forums.

I don't think we would feel comfortable with selling something via a forum. If anything we are here to provide information or battle misinformation.

If you would rather I post under some fake pseudonym then so be it.

Hysucat 6.5 with Issues

Hi Guys ,
Great to see your presence. I recently acquired a Hysucat hull in Australia and have rebuilt the boat and Re-powered with twin 2 stroke Mercs with standard factory props.

Having all sorts of problems with cavitation and can't get full power down without the props cavitating . Found it better to run in one engine and trim the Starboardone out of the water . Still get 21 knots but a bit out of balance.

Is there and advice you could give on what the factory settings / Prop size and pitch should be as i have been left high and dry by the engine supplier who were meant to know this type of boat from SA.

Look forward to your reply.

PS Love this boat and has turned heads here in Sydney......

look forward to your reply

Damo

Hi Damo,

Would love a bit more info on the boat and the engines before I commit to giving you some advise.

What size Mercs are these ? Long or short shaft ?

Standard factory props will get you nowhere, what do you have on the at present?

A picture of the boat and engine setup would help. If you can't post it here then send me an e-mail on info@hysucat.co.za

PS. We are shipping 2 more 6.5m Hysucats to Australia next week.

Hysucat with issues

Thanks for the reply, should have known better than to leave out the vital ingredient.

The boat is powered by two 50 hp ELPTO 2011 2 stroke model Mercs.
props are a F10.38 x 13P factory standard. the engines are short shaft.

In a process of elimination thought it would be good to find out what you guys specify as new . then can work through the list of other options. We have had problems with the Flo-Torq Hub kits allowing the props to come loose allow as much as 5-7mm of longitudinal play . My suspicion is there is too much load on these props and when they come loose this is making the cavitation problem even worse, possibly even creating a ventilation problem !

Where in Australia are the 2 new 6.5's going if i may ask ?

Will email you some pics

Thanks for you help

Regards

Damo

I have had a 2001 6.5m Hysucat for the past 3 years (it was commissioned in 2009); one of the few in the US. The rib has been an absolute dream in all conditions! My only complaint is my fuel storage capacity. I only carry two 34 liter portable tanks in the aft console; I take some additional fuel in jerry cans under the main seat, but my range is still very limited. Do you have any suggestions or applications that you have done to add fuel capacity?

I am also going to lift my boat off the trailer. Do you have any suggestions as o where to hoist from (full boat yard capabilities) - Thanks!
