Avon searider question from new member

Hi

Been lurking for a while and thought Id better join up as I need to ask the Searider experts out there a question on props.

Its a 5.4 with a 2001 Yam 90 2 smoke. Question is does anybody have any advice on stainless props and whats the best size to go for to achieve decent pick up and speed in the 40 (ish) knts?

Thanks in advance

You'll be needing a 'Miracle'.

Best prop I've found for mine is a 19" pitch standard ally one or 19" Michigan Wheel Match. You might see 40 knots in the flat calm with a light fuel load.

Going up in pitch from that just slows it down.

Yam 80 SR5.4
19" K series Prop 38Knots @ IIRC 5000rpm with low fuel and following wind
17" K series Prop 36 Knots @ 5400RPM with a following wind much better pickup
with the extra 10HP I would say a 19" would be fine for general use.
and the 17" for use 4 up or more.

I went out yesterday (found a sheltered bay) with a 19" standard ally, 60 ltrs of fuel, case of Corona, some limes and 2 up. Engine achieved 5000 rpm WOT and 34 knts by GPS. I guess thats about standard then taking into account yours and Doggiepaddles kindly supplied info.

Ive been reading this forum for some time now. Judging by the huge amount of Searider owners and the rave reviews they get - is it not worth having a dedicated forum section for them? That way the list of usual newbie questions such as mine could be addressed by looking in that section? Just a thought from an outsiders prospective.

Thanks again

Yeah that's about right. My flooding hull is blocked off as well, but it shouldnt make any odds to top speed.

Oddly though, I get an extra 200-300 rpm than you. Might be down to the revcounter.

Or I might need to lose a few extra pounds (kilos really).

Thanks
