What doscs needed for Channel Islands / France

I have passports and VAT invoice for boat. I do not have her on the SSR. What others documents do I need? Thanks

This week I have E Mailed Guernsey Harbour Master. His reply to this question was that I only required Insurance. All the other documents are if you got to France.

Very true but its wise to be prepared in case of a forced stop in France due to mechanics or some such problem...Think the SSR is a requirment. When I was stopped in Cherbourg its the doc they were most interested in.

We carry a standard set of docs. for all over seas trips on any boat. The more bits of official looking paperwork you put in front of them in what is for them a foreign langauge the quicker they see you are above board and leave you alone.

SRC or marine radio license
ships radio license
insurance
proof of ownership
proof of vat paid
ICC
Registration Doc
Passports (visas if appropraite)
EH1C
Receiptsf or any red diesel purchased in the UK

I have almost always been asked to show a passport on the 4 or so trips I've done to Alderney... (not been for about 5 years though)

Plus, there is (or was) a mandatory requirement to wear a 'Q', (yellow) flag on entry into Alderney.

Double Plus, the Channel Islands are not part of the UK or the EU, and thus, since you are leaving and on return, re-entering the EU, your vessel becomes subject to customs requirements, (though not Immigration ones). That means you need to inform Customs on your return to the UK and the way I read it, it would be advisable to fill in a C1331 form before you leave.

I know most people ignore this and will tell you otherwise….. and I’ve only heard rumours of one case of a fine, travelling from the Channel Islands and entering the EU in France without notifying…. But if you want peace of mind, see here.

As far as I'm aware you should fill in a customs entry form on arrival in Guernsey or Alderney. However, in Jersey they've given up on checking and logging each non-local vessel that arrives, though of course there will still be occasional spot checks, so you still need all the other docs. There is no need for a passport in the channel islands if you are a 'British Subject'. But any trip via france would require one.

The CIs are part of the UK but not in the EU (hence no VAT)

You don't need a passport to enter if you are British but how do you prove you are British without a passport?

They are treated as outside the UK too for VAT purposes but not for immigration.......

And the concept of how to prove you are British without a passport was the attitude taken by the officials the last time I went.

It really is a complicated issue if you want to be truly ‘legal’, which is probably why a lot of people ignore it!

It’s just nice to have all your documentation in order if you get a customs ‘raid’. I speak from experience!

I even flew the Q flag on my returns to the UK!

But as I say, I haven’t been for a few years.

I notify the Coast Guard before we leave i always give them our SSR
It seams that they they sort of know that fast thing crossing the channel
is us, I have only been asked once for my doc,s all the other times i could have been from any where no one came near us, saying that better to be safe than sorry

It's the replacement for the E111, basically allows you medical treatment in EU countries without having to pay up.

Go to http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/H...lers/index.htm to get one, it's free and you need one for each adult / child travelling.
