Using a UK rib in Spain

Hi,

I have a house in Javea Spain but my main residence is in the UK. I visit frequently and am just about to purchase a new Spanish car with a tow bar for use while I am there.
I would like to use a rib which I would leave at my house and tow to the sea on my visits. Now I could buy locally but it would be easier for me to choose and buy in the Uk and have it shipped down.
I am very aware of Spain and paperwork and I would like to hear from anyone who has done this before. For example I know a UK sourced trailer could be an issue and what Country should the boat be registered in? I know this could be a minefield!
Any help would be appreciated.
Martin

Hi Martin & welcome to Ribnet. I've no experience/expertise in the matter but this might be a starting point.

As long as the trailer you purchase has a EU type approval plate on it and comes with the correct paperwork, then you will be able to get it registered in Spain so that you can tow it behind your Spanish registered vehicle. We (South Coast Boat Trailers - boat trailers, boat trailer for sale or hire) have sold several trailers to customers in Spain and I have never heard of any problems.

In terms of the boat registration, most people I know have them registered on the British Small Ships Register which is simple, cheap and the Spanish seem happy to accept.
