Going to the south of France

One of the plans for next year (it's too cold for going out now, so the only thing to do is to plan next year's RIB adventures!) is to drive with 6m RIB down to the south of France for Easter 2017. St Raphael, Frejus, St Tropez - somewhere there. I'm trying to discover as much as possible about it. A few questions:

1. Will the weather be OK during Easter (first week of April 2017) break? Or will the mistral destroy all the plans of leaving a marina? We have two kids, so rough seas will not go down very well with the missus!
2. A place to stay. The best I have found is L'Etoile d'Argens, but the river mouth doesn't look good - it looks very shallow on Google maps. The video below tells me it's impossible to leave the river if one doesn't have a hovercraft!

Or maybe other suggestions for a week or two down south during Easter? I'm assuming that Solent won't be warm enough at that time of the year...

Been to that neck of the woods quite a bit on holiday but not with the boat. However, a good friend had a static and kept his (ahem) Bayliner at Holiday Marina near Port Grimaud where they can launch you and provide moorings for your stay - Location - Resort Holiday Marina ***** - Port Grimaud - St Tropez - Côte d'Azur - Var 83Camping Club Holiday Marina ***** – Port Grimaud – St Tropez – Côte d'Azur – Var 83 We went out into the bay quite a bit and dropped into St Tropez and would anchor in Millionaires Bay just beyond. Huge fun and if it was too windy, we would just pootle around Port Grimaud.

Thanks for a very, very helpful chat! Looks like good destinations (camping with a marina) are Port Grimaud (which is the plan for Easter) and somewhere on the southern end of Lake Garda. I'm still thinking if I'm brave enough to go to Croatia or Greece during August hols - a bit further away, but will definitely be more fun!

Can anyone confirm you can access the Med from the river??.

If by "here" you mean Holiday Marina Resort, then I was able to get to the sea from the resort.

Hey Glyn, French here and thought I might help you. Yep, as far I as know, you can access the Med from the river.

I've been several times with a 3.8m SIB. But it was maybe 6 years ago now.
Mooring and slipway were excellent.
And yes most times you could get through into the sea. Although there were days when you needed to walk the boat through over the final sandbar.. just a few feet as too shallow to use the outboard.. we had a few days where it became blocked and had to wait for the dredger to be deployed.

River is nice . Lots of soft sand to beach on the river side of the entrance. Moorings and slipway were very good. Campsite was really nice but a bike is helpful as very long.
