>>>How did you cope with the evil midges???

Well that's a weird thing. The last couple of years in the Kintyre area they were a nightmare, particularly most evenings. But we were hardly troubled this year and it was something we kept commenting on. Just on the Friday night when I packed the car around 7pm I wore a mesh hood as there were a few about. Rest of the time we used a combination of "Jungle Formula" and "Avon skin so soft" as a precaution but hardly needed.

Kids and Mrs F picked up a few ticks from walking bare legged through undergrowth though.

Great images from your walking/climbing.

Just remembered we exchanged PMs back in May and see you were there the week before us. Did you get out on the planned cruise boat trip?

<<we were hardly troubled this year>>

That's strange -- they got us whenever the wind dropped and Skin So Soft didn't seem to slow them down much. I'd brought some mosquito head nets with me but unfortunately the mesh was a bit large and the more determined midges were able to get through.

My son got a tick as well.

Yes, we spent three very nice days with my extended family on the boat before going down to Kylereah. We boarded in Kyle of Lochalsh and sailed up to Portree for the first night; Gairloch for the second night; and back to Kyle for the last night. We saw some minke whales and dolphins but we didn't spot any basking sharks.

Here's a pic of the boat at the dock in Gairloch:

Did you visit Eilean Donan? I found it to be a bit of a sham.

Quite odd Alzi to see your image at the slipway we used as "our own" for a week. Did you launch from there or just give it a look? I say our own as we never met another boat using it which was odd given the useful facilities.

We didn't visit the castle Delta, we passed it several times a day on and off the water but never wanted to see inside... it was very popular all week though with the car park constantly full.

Hi,

Firstly Delta thanks for the comment re my rib , I think all pay for tourist attractions are a sham., The scottish scenary does it for me. !!!

Hi, Fenlander ,I think we might have been up there before you got there.
Yes we got out from there Twice in the 3 weeks we were up there, once we went round the castle and up loch Duich as it was early evening "Stunning Sunset" the second Launch was upto and through Kylehera.
The Slipway was one of the easy ones for us , As you can see we are approx 40' long when towing , so launching can be problematic at times , luckily (or not) we have 4 teenagers with us who virtually launch and recover the Rib for me, by hand if need be.

We also Launched on Skye at camaes more and staffin bay, Cromarty , channory point (Moray Firth) , tried Torridon and Sheildaig

The pic Below is us just leaving 6 on board , 66l fuel @26 knots. castle on right.

I will try and find the pictures from that trip and post them.
