well as mercury mariner and tohatsu are the same engine up to 30 hp, honda only make a 5 hp and an 8, and the yam is dear and still has the same warranty as the merc/ mariner/ tohatsu ( the 5hp honda has 6) no surprise I would go for the tohatsu.

let me know if you want a quote for these.

I had the Mercury 6hp and it was a great little engine, easy to start and used next to no fuel.
Quiet running too, at lower RPM anyway.
So if the Mercury, Mariner and Tohatsu are the same then any of them should be fine.

They weigh about 26kg so fairly easy to carry also.

Is Suzuki not in your vocabulary, or don't you sell this brand?

The Suzuki is OK but it only has an integral 1.5 litre fuel tank where the others have a separate tank that holds 12 litres.
You can fit this to the Suzuki but it costs extra.

What about Yamaha and how does Mercury justify +£100 on it's 6 hp over the other two?

The new Yamaha looks good, apparently it's been designed so you can store it however you want without the oil leaking out.
On my Mercury you had to store it on one side only and not carry it by the steering handle etc.
I paid £899 for the Mercury in 2009, but if the other two are now cheaper, buy one of those! As they are it seems the same.

Have you thought about the Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke? It weighs the same as these engines but delivers almost twice the power, and being a twin cylinder is smoother as well.
I've bought one and it's just as easy to start and makes less noise.
It depends on whether you want your Europa Sport 320 to plane, although it should manage it with a 6hp as long as you only have one person on board, or two lightweight people.

Hi

The Suzuki is a fine engine but we dont get many request for them but happy to give you a quote. The Tohatsu being cheaper than the Merc/ Mariner and the fact they they sell a 6hp it is very popular. We also get requests for the Honda's due to the extra warranty and that many people have honda engines in some other form i.e. quads, cars, lawnmowers etc. and have had v posstive experience. Yams are great engines but they tend to be more expensive than even the Honda and have the same warranty as the merc/ mariner/ tohatsu.

I would also consider getting a used one that is still under warranty and sorry no we dont have any in but other dealers will have them, so it is worth a calling a few if you think it is worth considering this option.

The Tohatsu 9.8 is still available new, although there was some discussion about the legality of it, the dealer selling them insists it's fine though.
The total cost is £1600
However they come up second hand for a fair bit less, this may be am option worth looking into.
