You could purchase a handheld VHF radio. They are about £60 for a cheap one. Better than a mobiles because generally the signal to the coastguard tower is always decent. If you haven't used one before I suggest you put it on channel 16 and leave it in case you are in need of help.

You will need 3x the depth you will be anchoring of rope. You also need a decent length of chain at the end of the rope. I think it is 1.5x the boat?

Good luck and have fun

Woz, hope the mechanic can sort out the 25 for you at a decent cost. If boating close to shore 30 Mt of rope will be plenty, don't forget to include the booze on the what will I need items, maybe add a new spark plug set. Have fun, let the audience know how was your boating day trip..

Happy Boating

Ok thanks for the advice..I haven't a clue how deep the seas going to be so how much rope shall I attach?? Will have some chain knocking about......

Hi downhilldia..
The fella iv bought it off has offered to collect and refund me twice now..has said he will pick up the bill for the engine..the engine and trailer was supposed to have been professionaly serviced....I checked the trailer over yesterday and the hubs were bone dry and one bearing had broken up so I'm pleased it wasn't collected or there would of been a stranded boat and owner at the side of the road....
I deal quite alot and on occasion there are issues which I don't mind Aslong as people are honourable and true to there word....the boating world is a small one lol

Hi Woz

Everytime I go to sea I always have a sense of "worry".

Its out of respect for the sea as it can be a good servant but a bad master.

Check out this link for some good top tips - let us know how you get on - photos are brill

RNLI sea safety advice

Over time have a good look at the interactive publication "Sea Safety -The Complete Guide" - highly recommended

Easy, load an online chart of the bay and look at where it is deepest or at least where you will be going.

There will be numbers on the chart e.g. 62 (the 2 is meant to be little) that indicates 6.2 meters but you add on how many meters of tide there is. So say high tide is a 5.6 meter tide then the depth at that point at high tide would be 11.8 meters. Just times that by 3 (if it were to be the deepest point you would anchor at) so you would need around 30m of rope + the chain. The chain is very important because the anchor will not work very effectively at all without a chain!

Hope this helps,

Henry

Where? I find the postage from buying them online can outweigh any savings as they have to be carried by an ADR licenced carrier.

I'd be interested to know if you found somewhere useful.

A bloke off ebay selling some he didn't need. But I though you are not allowed to post them?

If you keep an eye out you can normally spot some.

Something i forgot to take a bail out tool.... Something like a 4 litre milk carton cut on the end... A bit of water weighing down the sponsons makes it hard to plane

You can send them by some courier services, but they are quite specialist.

I think Force 4 will post for example.

Do not buy polypropylene - it floats and is generally hateful stuff - get nylon.

The following link maybe of help

Sailtrain: Anchoring and mooring, Anchor preparation and practice.

don't worry about chain on the anchor for a sib , its not needed and just damages the deck , or air floor . Don't worry you will give up long long before the sib will .

My advice is to take a decent webbing climbing sling or two and find a place on the top of tubes about 750mm infront of where you sit and loop it though to hold onto , your passenger will want one too and they are also useful to pull yourself or someone else back into the boat should you fall out , or go for a swim . Holding the ropes on the tubes will soon have your hands raw and knuckles chafed on the tubes .

make an elastic loop from 6mm bungee cord that fits snug around your wrist and conect the kill cord to that , Kill cord for tiller steer is better on your throttle hand than leg , When you get out drop the loop over the tiller so the kill cord doesn't get lost or pulled off and it will be there to remind you when you next grab the tiller .

take some rope to tie your kit bag in the bow as it will bounce back constantly when underway , and get all your kit in a decent bag to keep it in place .
