I sit starboard as the transverse thrust pulls tiller away from me. You can keep your tiller arm straight that way. It's easier driving for long distances. Change hands when shifting gears, reversing and slow maneuvers .

Foot straps, like that thinking, been bouncing on waves kneeling on starboard side, operating tiller with left and holding onto a rope with right hand for dear life... Generally sit on starboard tube for torque and cooling reasons.

Starboard for me too, no idea why. I'm right handed with a tiller gearshift so no issues there but my previous outboards had the shift on the starboard side so it just seemed the right place to sit.
After some seriously sore knees I'll be getting some matting on the ally floor for next year !!!
