What pump?

So...... I inflated my Honwave T40 for the first time yesterday using the foot pump that came with it.

I don't think I want to do that again. So I'm after a recommendation for a good portable pump or asking if there are any for sale that any of you guys know about ?

Thanks

Cliff.

Thanks Jeff, I'll take a look. It was hard work getting up to pressure with the foot pump.

>>>don't think I want to do that again.

Ha...ha... there's quite a lot of air needed in that size of SIB. Those honwave pumps aren't the best either. For a SIB like yours the quickest manual pump I've found is a 1980s Avon wood and Hypalon bellows... seemed to shift twice as much air as a modern footpump.

I've got the electronic display version of that Bravo and it saves the day sometimes. There are accepted to be potentially unreliable when they get a few years old so factor that into the buying decision.

I picked up one of those inexpensive Coleman air pumps, which quickly fills the main air chambers to about 95% volume, then bring them to pressure using a hand pump w/PSI gauge. Works great, and cuts the time it takes to be water ready in half... now it's 15 minutes to go from carry bag to motor start-up.

Good call as the Bravo's are a bit overkill for a SIB with LP tubes and LP keel. The Coleman's only £20.

Honestly my legs ache today, so definitely don't want to do it again. I'll check the pressure before it goes in the water Monday, but for now it should only need the odd top up every now and then. But before it ever gets fully inflated again I'll be the happy owner of an electric pump.

Looking good cliff smart set up
I have had my pump about six years now and it's a god send but its just top up both with the rib and now the sib some have had problems but I think it's the constant use pumping up the whole boat every time and the pump gets hot/ worn etc or luck of the draw I had a rule before this and lasted a day my boat came with the styrup type pump ok for top up but full pump bloody hell not for me.
Hope you get out soon my next trip is the end of the month hope the weather is better than the beginning of this month.

A (the?) favourite topic on here?!

I'm *still* using the exact same budget pump set up discussed nearly six years ago on here! Man time flies.

Decathlon were selling the Sevylor pump for £35. Has a pre set and seems to work well. Sadly out of stock now but available elsewhere

I use the rule high speed pump, which I find really good. Ok it doesn't have a pressure guage but I normally finish off with the foot pump. Also great for pack the sib up - almost folds its self up when sucking the air out. Cheaper than the bravo pumps too. Had mine a couple of years now no issues

Thanks Jeff. I'm off work this coming week so it will be getting wet at least once (weather permitting) . Paper Mill Lock on the Chelmer Tuesday and the Crouch Friday. Can't wait to see what rib's like.

Enjoy your trip out Cliff... you're going to beat me to it. I've finished my monster bathroom insalll for my parents but now there are some family/household duties to attend to that have been sidelined since Christmas.

I saw the image of your outfit. Reminded me of the time when we had the 3.5m version of your SIB. I remember how stable it was in the water and at the pontoon when getting in/out.

Really interested to hear how you find it.

Dad kept a couple of 2/4 berth sailing boats on the crouch 52yrs ago and I remember as an 8yr old walking almost up to my knees in the mud pushing him in the dinghy through the shallows out to our mooring where our bilge keel boat sat hardly afloat so we were ready to make the most of the tide.

Thanks again for all your replies, I'll have a little look and compare all your recommendations guys.

Fenlander - they sound like great memories mate. My father in law has his boat at Brandy Hole on the Crouch. I'll take some pics and start a 'first trip/week out' thread at the end of next week.
