Valve adapters

Why don't valve adapters have a cross piece within them that would force the valve spring down and therefore open the valve for easier inflation?

We could then use electric pumps to fill the boat all the way instead of finishing off with a foot pump to force air through the valve.

I am sure this has been answered many times, I just couldn't find any info on it, cheers.

This isn't correct though - the valve has no effect on the pressure the pump can create, you can only create more pressure in the boat by having a greater pressure outside (ie in the pump) so air wants to move in - no 'air movement pump' (ie the common fan type) can produce more than a few psi so you need a piston type pump either hand stirrup or foot type or a HP Bravo type.

Exactly as Max says...there are two types of pump...high volume, low pressure such as you'd use to fill an air bed, and low volume, high pressure such as you'd use to inflate the tyres on your car.

RIB/SIB tubes can be inflated pretty much for volume by the former but need finishing off by the latter to generate the required pressure.

Some pumps, such as the Bravo, are designed for RIB/SIB tube inflation and contain both pumps in one unit...

We do find that on occasions the diaphragm inside the valve puts enough pressure on some of the electric inflators to make them switch over to the high pressure pump, having a valve adaptor that pushes in the pin to the diaphragm stops this from happening.

Max, Leapy the issue I have is that my electric pump will not push air past the diaphram atall, therefore the boat doesnt inflate in the slightest. I modified a normal adapter so that it pushed on the spring and it inflated it nearly all the way. This modification wont last which is why I have been trying to find one as I described in the 1st post.

There must be an issue with a faulty valve or pump then - the valves should open with the slightest pressure against them.

The spring on A7, B7 and C7 need some pressure to release the diaphragm that’s why they don’t leak even with the valve caps off.

I modified my H-R type adaptor with a piece of heavy (.086" or so) SS wire inserted across the bore to do just what the OP was asking about, since my Bravo HP electric pump's centrifugal stage wouldn't open the diaphragm. Drill the adaptor, insert wire (friction fit.) The only hard part was figuring out exactly how high to have the wire sit. As I recall, it was a trial and error thing. The extra drilled holes were above where the adaptor seals to the valve, so no harm done.

As an update, the adapter that Ribshop sent me works great. Such a simple device and the boat now fills with ease, top up with footpump not necessary.
