Trimming Honwave T38

Hi folks, just been out in my new Honwave T38 which has a Honda 15hp fitted
I was on my own and it just seems a bit strange that the bow lifts up really high when opening full throttle.
I tried moving the trim up and down. But it still raises really high before planeing.
What do people normally do to keep the front down. Its only when I crack the throttle wide open from a stand still

Thanks

Are you saying you hit WOT immeadately if so it will just build your revs more slowly if not that throw more weight forward fuel tank kit etc also use your body weight by moving forward then back once on the plane

As Jeff says you need a sack of spuds/kit forward and buy a tiller extension when solo to shift your own weight forward. Outboard close in on pin 1

As above... weight forward is key here. I assume you are solo... if so as Yaba says a tiller extension may be essential to getting your weight far enough forward for an easy transition. You might as well go through that transition as quickly as possible however dramatic it seems as trying to creep over the hump just prolongs the time spent with the bow pointing to the sky.

Depends what you mean by 'really high'. All SIBs generally benefit from weight in the bow so get the anchor bag and gear box or whatever up there, fuel midships too. And as the guys said a tiller extension is pretty much essential in many SIB's if you are one up.

Thanks for the advice chaps, with the motor on pin 1 and just me on board weighing in at 80kg....nothing else onboard apart from the fuel tank in the middle, the bow comes up high enough that I can,t see where I am going.

I have the seat nearest the bow at the moment and I am sitting on the tubes, there is a position for the seat nearer the motor which I haven,t tried yet.

Do you sit on the tubes with a tiller extension or will moving the seat back in front of the motor and a tiller extension help?

Do you have a preferred make of extension?

Thanks for the help.

Is your bow high problem just in transition or does it stay that way when on the plane. I assume you are truly getting on the plane... 12kts plus?

Trim pin in hole nearest the transom, I tried it in the second hole from the transom it still gets on the plane but the bow was really high for longer during transition, the high bow issue is just when accelerating once its on the plane its fine.

Ha your boat will be high until it gets over the bow wave (displacement wave ) looks worse when theres some wave action too but if she levels out on the plane yout there

Unfortunately with a lightweight SIB and no kit or crew this will always be an issue. A tiller extension will help but often your correct position for transition and plane are two different places.

In this situation I've ended up with a very short tiller extension which suits my position on the plane then I shift my weight as far forward as I can just having finger tips on the tiller for transition... then slide back when over the hump.

I keep to sitting on the tube as I find that more natural than sitting on the seat with my hand half behind me to reach the tiller.

I never use a seat in the BAT but sit midships on the SB tube with the above. For max speed tests I have taken it off, sat by the engine and stuck a rigid tank against the transom - goes fast then but super flighty and I would not go our in a head sea like that!
