thoughts on frib 435 to send to Africa for winter

input need on
last year sent areotec to west africa as trail
was 1996 model
was there few weeks and transom started to fail (November)
so when in December reglued upper transom but not total strip down
was there last week started fail bottom and patch needed on floor in rear corner
boat is mint and looks 2/3 years old
now what do you do ?
15 hp 2005 4 stroke yam is good after 4 months 3 pulls and great
op 1 spend few day regule weight all up 110 kg with full tank
op 2 buy second hand rib but too heavy for beach launch ?
op 3 buy f rib 375 or 430
the sea can be quite ruff and big swells that areotec can Handel but like soilid floor

I might be strereotyping here but Africa sounds hot, especially if you can't keep it indoors when not in use and hot+glue is a recipe for failure! Perhaps an all welded seam boat would fair better? Certainly a Hypalon one would do better than PVC long term - but hypalon can't be welded; PU might be the happy compromise?

gluing is all about prep and humidity - on a 20 yr old boat when seams start going I think you are looking at a lot of work, never really trusting it and the liklihood that more issues appear...

can you (safely) get a car on the beach? don't rule out beach launching even without you just need the right trailer - there was a guy here (canadian I think) who had some massive baloon tires and multiple wheels...

Failing that if we are talking small light weight ribs look at the Aluminium hulled boats like the ribeye tender series - they are phenomenally light.

Perhaps - although I bet the 430 is still a beast to handle on your own, and 15 horses might start to feel a bit low on it.

Since this is ribnet and people always suggest there own brand - have you thought about a rotomolded polythene boat? no seams, no worries about tubes bursting in the sun, proper hull shape. Potentially heavier though.

I like Poly's idea, you don't specify the intended use but if hardcore and reliability is key then it might be best to forget inflatables and go poly-whatever or alu except maybe a proper old Hypalon and mahogany ply Avon - the Land Rover of the seas and eminently more suited than a light weight PVC model.

there slill bit more than frib
point 1, boat is stored inside so max temp is 26/27c,
point 2 basic country no slipways / no car/ have use cabs to move from mates house to the pub that 150 mts from beach
point 3 the bombard has been good, all welded seams are fine and no fading what so ever ! due to 303 sprayed on evertime and when not at sea kept in shade
had to re glue seat,side handle & floor strap

1,going cruising to other beaches,
2. river use via the sea,
3, if my son was with me tow toys and knee board,

poly,
f rib are single skin/ flowcoat, tubes are hand glued,
the new frib is 4.3 m 68 kg
if you look at mercury ocean runner 420 rib grand cheaper, 106 kg
also the aerotec is work on soft sand on your own

yip - at 4.3 m I wonder if you really want that - yes it makes it lighter, but there must be reasons almost all other ribs that size have a deck/second skin. It might be for you weight is so important it trumps everything else.

My Zodiac has black pvc tubes and gets used all over Australia in extreme heat and sun and has no problems with melting glue etc. I do clean my tubes using uv blocking cleaners 303 Marine Aerospace Protectant - 946Ml.

Surely you can find a rib somewhere over there.

i dont think pvc is problem,
weight for beach launch is the factor as launching is by hand.
i also use 303

Surely the problem here is 21 year old glue? Plenty of Aeros on here are falling apart in the UK after that sort of time.

A few weeks a year in the sun won't make any difference - buy younger and you'll be fine - IMO
