suitable paint for marine ply.

Hi just wondering if anyone can recommend a inexpensive readily available paint and primer to paint a marine plywood bow box on my sib.
I have a carcass made up and I'm going to paint it this weekend.
I'm looking for a grey coloured paint that is going to protect the ply from salt water splashes and be resistant to peeling chipping and flaking off.
Im not going to get to a chandlery but will be able to get to the usual nationwide DIY shops.
Thanks in advance!

Might be better to use a good yacht varnish.

I did think about varnish but I really want to paint it grey the same as the floor section and other mods that I have made to the SIB.
It's not the best bit of ply either so want to cover it up with grey paint and forget about it,

Agree. From experience, even the best quality paints start to peel from ply after a bit of weathering.

Epoxy paint, it's more like coloured glue. You just have to mix the two pots together. The seller would advise on primer.

I've ordered some grey flow coat and resin to paint my bow box with. Might as well paint it once with something that's not going to crack or peel rather than cutting corners and painting it with cheap gloss paint or the like.
Don't know if it requires a primer or not?
I will see the instructions when it arrives next week.

Cheers for the suggestion.

No primer but a good key with a rough sandpaper is a must, I roller it on, wipe down with acetone between coats, (gets rid of wax) then if you are really anal you can cut it back with wet n dry and polish.

Cheers.
A couple of coats on the outside and one on the inside will be sufficient Im not anal enough to be polishing etc.

If you go with the roller method you will need a few coats as it goes on quite thin, I use the 6" foam roller, be sure to have plenty before you start as the resin breaks down the foam and you get about half an hour to a roller.

You won't use paint again

Done the bow box with flowcoat this weekend.
Turned out well.
Thanks for suggesting it.
Certainly looks and feels durable.
It also matches the floor of the boat.
Stuck Honwave badge from carry bags on for effect.
Cheers guys!
