That's a very tidy outfit Chipko... just a little mild envy!

Big Al that's a real deal... just the sort of thing I was looking for in 2015 when I ended up buying new.

Cheers,,,, but in the words of Kevin Bloody Wilson "Mine's faster than yours cos mine's a red one". only joking,,,,,, just seemed a good deal, I can have all being well the next 10+ years glue free issues that are posted on here. Not that I have any problems with my 2001 model.

It's more like the price they should be new, rather than the over inflated price Bombard ask these days ...

Yep it would be great if you could get a new major brand 20hp OB for £1500 too... but time moves on.

New 3.8m models currently at one discount dealer...

Bombard Aerotec £2400
Zodiac Classic £2900
Zodiac Futura £3600

and of course an F-Rib £3100.

So it seems all the premium boats attract... err... premium prices.

Something I've said in the past is that I'd love to see someone like Honwave make an Aerotec design which they should be able to sell around £1200-£1400.

Exactly, so it just goes to show that Bombard are charging over inflated prices [emoji106]

Not really because they are not made in China and branded Honwave. Everyone who buys a new Zodiac/Bombard pays a premium. Some intelligent and very experienced boat owners are happy to do so... must be a reason. Others choose to look elsewhere... they have their reasons too.

Anyway the likely depreciation curve for a new Aerotec (bought new and sold off at a fair price after 10yrs) is only £150/yr which for us is about £8 a trip. I think most folks would judge that good value for a thrilling time on the water.

I've owned a Bombard Aerotec, Zodiac Classic MK2C and a Honwave, IMHO there isn't much difference in quality between any of them, others may agree or disagree, I'm only saying what I have found, hence why I think they are overpriced, or Honwaves are underpriced ......

Not the fabled 2 stroke but offers accepted means maybe under a grand for a little SIB and 9.8 four stroke to test the water for those new to SIBing:

Boat Inflatable With Tohatsu 9.8 Four Stroke immaculate

I agree re quality... in fact I've had more quality issues with Zodiac/Bombard (three warranty claims on boats under 2mths old over the past 6yrs) than Honwave (zero faults).

The reason for me being happy to pay a premium price for the Aerotec is for the design which... as yet... has never been fully copied. It happens to suit us and our current needs like no other... but of course isn't right for many other folks.

Good to have choice.

And do I spot an anti-splash bracket on the transom (pic 5 in particular)... assuming so nice to have that ready fitted?

Lots of clues in the images that it's from a decent home.... usual transom/floor seam enquiries need making at its age and also what that £350 outboard expenditure was on. But if those are answered OK looks like it could be a real fun outfit.

Hi David

Looks good- what should I ask about the transom, seams etc?

Best

Rob the Aerotec in common with other Zodiac PVC SIBs has a construction part heat welded seams and part glued. The heat welded seams last forever but the glued ones will likely at some point start to fail. There were several examples of this reported last year on the forum.

The places that are glued on the Aerotec are the outer floor to the tubes and the transom to the tubes.

The seams can look fine until you try to peel them apart or push something like a blunt scraper between them. They should resist any such probing totally if still sound.

In the UK the life of these glued seams is often around 15-18yrs so that Aerotec is in the "check very carefully age range".

See post #31 onwards in this thread where I had to repair my 1998 Aerotec.

Yep but nothing to be frightened of as long as you check before handing over the dosh... and that the outfit is priced correctly according to age.
