Other thing to remember about D&G area is there are lots of flat sandy beaches, which are great for sibs, but your short carry to the water's edge at high tide may become a half mile walk 3 hrs later. Sandhead being a prime example...
It's 100miles from Gretna to Stranraer. Usually manage it in 2 1/2 hours towing. Can sometimes get stuck behind trucks if ferry due but generally trucks want to pass you unless Smokey Bear is on the lookout.

Thanks everyone for the great info.
Have narrowed it down even further, and more or less decided on loch lomond.
In particular ardlui hotel and campsite, has anyone stayed here and if so, could you let me know if you need any permits to sib on the lochs, speed limits etc.
I do have boat insurance and will be taking either a tohatsu 18hp or mariner 25hp.
Many thanks....AGAIN

Yes you will need to register the boat. Don't think you can do it at ardlui, so either do it by post or stop at balloch rangers office on the way up. It's free (but you'll need to pay postage and for numbers etc) . You'll get the bylaws at that time (or online from the national park website).

That's interesting - we have that term too. Here it means second generation (settled) Travellers (Pikeys). Scum of the planet.

Hi

well if loch lomond it is I am sure we will see you. Just look for a shetland 610 with a shiny 90hp Honda on it and a big fat bloke grinning a lot as that will be me!
