Man I miss Alaska!

I've taken my 4m rib out in similar to the video and it was fun for about 10 mins before we decided enough was enough. My old zapcat with a forty on the back handled enormous breaking surf fine, but made you soil your wetsuit in short order. Ribs and inflatables can handle a lot. The lesson I learned was that going out and not sinking is a long way from going out and having fun.

surfing

Went sib surfing yesterday in my achillies sg132 with a 30hp and a friend in his 3 meter zodiac with a 10hp. We were at Tomales bay just north of San Francisco. I have never surfed before so I admit there was a bit of pucker factor in the beginning but once we got going it was great fun and I'm looking forward to the next session.[/IMG][/IMG]

Rocket1, that does look like fun! I discussed going out to Tomales Bay Saturday morning (Had afternoon commitments) and launching just for a tour of the bay as I have never done it in a power boat. Don't think I would go and play in the surf alone, but would if another boat were around. Living in Sonoma County makes it pretty quick for us to get out there.

Before saturday I had never played in the surf except for the occasional beach launch, Tomales has what seemed like a pretty forgiving break at the mouth of the bay but if your going to play there keep your eyes open because a little farther out I was seeing the occasional breaking wave closing out the entire channel. We didn't drop any crab pots that day but it looked like others were getting some so if your going bring some.

I got my Zodiac MkI into some nasty cross chop with the wind and fast tide conflicting between some islands on the inside of Vancouver Island this Aug. It was way to rough to keep any speed up, boat was leaving the water and landing really hard. Had to slow right down but then the waves where coming over the sides and bow at times, we where soaked but the self bailing drains kept dumping the water with a bit of throttle kept on and we made it across, cold but ok.
