Sad old Avon Typhoon

It started off looking for a small SIB for the Mrs to use to go fishing in, as i've been too busy at work to get out.
After looking at a few sub 3m boats, i decided to look for something bigger with a solid floor.
She'll carry a fair amount of gear and we get some fairly big fish in the Summer.

Anyway, i was on the point of buying a 4m Honwave, when an Avon Typhoon 4m appeared
locally on ebay, described as "been patched, but holds air"
After a quick inspection, the transom was rotten and the patches had been stuck on with
flour and water or something similar, as they just peeled off, but it was love at first sight.

The old transom came out easily enough, putting it back in was a little more tricky !

Removed all the old patches and re-glued them, looking like a boat again now.

Picked a trailer up, ebay again, fitted the floor and gave the tubes a clean.

Thanks,

There's still a lot to do but it's getting there.
Next jobs, get some black rope for the lifelines and sort some kind of rod holders out.

Just reading your post and just wanted to say what a good job you've made of it ,
I have completed many similar projects some where my friends thought I was mad, Don't you find for what it all costs ( the true value not the price you told the wife ) it would be cheaper to buy a new one.

Hi,
No, the boat and trailer as in the last pic owes me about half the cost of a new 4m PVC boat
without a trailer.
Obviously there's a few evenings work gone into it but i enjoy that.

Well, the Mrs took it out for it's maiden voyage with a 4hp Mariner 4 stroke we had.
Not happy ! she came back pleading for a bigger 2 stroke.
After a bit of searching i found a nice 15 Merc, she's pleased with that, especially as it's colour matched to the tubes !

The boat's back where it belongs now, she may need to carry a repair kit though.
Roll on summer.
