Hey, thanks for the tips I'll be getting there for around 12 if you are out. Thanks Fenlander.

Sadly not able to get out for a couple of weekends... huge family workload at the moment. Enjoy the day.

From experience with Navionics as a racing sailor as good as it is I'd take it's tide and current data more as rough notes rather than something to rely on!

Thanks Davkt. To be fair I have only used it for route planning to see where the channels are and areas to avoid. I rarely use whilst out on the water.

Also thanks for the tips Fenlander. We had an awesome day out today. We launched at Mersea and went round to Clacton-on-sea pier. Then headed back to the beach you suggested for a picnic. The weather was great and the sea was really calm. Never had any issues with the outboard since changing the fuel tank and line. BTW forgot to mention that I have upgraded to a 380 with aluminium deck. I still have the 10HP Tohatsu and it was comfortable with 3 up today. I will probably upgrade this when I have a bit more experience.

I have attached a couple of images of my setup

Good to see your report and pics... a very familiar location! I looked at the marine forecast last night and the sea state looked very calm... glad it was in reality.
