Re Painting Hypalon Inflatable

Hi all.
Last year I brought a Wetline 265. It had suffered from sun and weather damage after sitting in a harbour for a few seasons. I used it last year for two days it holds air well and has no punctures or any other damage. I want to repaint it, ''DUE TO THE WEATHER DAMAGE" (I have youtubed tutorials on re-painting). However the hypalon has dried out really bad and has lost its rubbery glossy feel due to the weather damage. Is it still paintable? using a specialists rubber paint for Hypalon of course. Or is it past its best. I can upload a vid or photos to help my enquiry if needed.

Are you sure it is Hypalon?

I'm pretty sure it is, I googled the difference in material between PVC and Hypalon. if you study the material up close its a woven fabric effect which suggests its hypalon (which if I'm correct has 4 layers) this is my concern with the paint its almost down to this ruff fabric feel. (suede / itchy/ ruff surface).

Hi again, I am no expert on Wetline but I have just done a Google and the 265 AD is PVC, the 300 AD is PVC, THE 310 ad is PVC, And even the 350 RIB is PVC so I would assume PVC but I cannot be 100% but someone will be along shortly that will know for sure.

Ok thanks for your help. It much appreciated. Im also no expert. I have also good led the boat type and model number. Its been no help unfortunately in helping discover what material it is.

No problem, what I did was looked at suppliers (like Mailspeed Marine) and read the spec on the different boats

Wetline have only ever made PVC sibs.

Thank you for confirming this Landlockpirate.... after Bartiny queried wether or not it was PVC. I done some further research and found that you could tell be the welded seems.The way they are manufactured, and as you well know it is PVC.

Thanks for all your help....However!! So further to my inquiry what paint would be suitable to get this back up to a good standard would -Seicol polygon gloss, Gibbon inks formula 1 Or the best HMG PVC 94 as suggested earlier (for hypalon)

Hi reg

You need pvc paint not Hypalon they are very different!

Go with superflex by (polymarine) its specifically for pvc tubes
They also do a range of colours ie. The most common rib types orange, black etc...
It's pricey stuff around 38quid 500ml coverage 2.5 msq
Put it on with a gloss roller DIY radiator size and cut in with brush
It drys quite quickly allowing you to build up decent layers

You'll rarely get sun damage breaking down Hypalon
Pvc gets attacked by the sun easily where Hypalon is uv resistant hence the price difference in material and rib types
