the reason im getting this is i have trained with boat when i was in the Marines and i know the in's and out's. i done many opp's with it and it doesn't bother me. i just want to have the same boat that i was using when i was in. that is way im getting this boat and i love everyday of it when i had it. i love to sit on the tub and just hold the outboard.

Nope! The ID plate says the max HP for the boat.

Now does that mean the Coast Guard, sheriff, or insurance are gonna say anything? Probably not, but if they do...

40hp 60hp, I still would not consider it an ideal boat for running out to the Channel Islands. If it is what you are getting then so be it. Just choose your days carefully for the crossing. Always good to have a secondary boat along and a fixed VHF with an 8' antenna, as a handhelds range may not be far enough.

Just put on 40 HP decals. I've seen that boat run 65s before. Does it have the transom reinforcement straps, if not you can buy them.
I go to Cat all the time in sibs, pick your day, and don't take the wife and kids.

Cheers

It will weigh too much, possibly break the transom and invalidate your insurance. If I were you I'd be getting a rib all day long.
He's not putting any floor into any SIB. The F-470s were designed to work with both roll up aluminum slat floors and with aluminum floor boards. The slat floors are nowhere near as rigid hence the 40 hp rating vs the 60 hp rating with the aluminum floor boards.

Not really for a boat of that size and build. The transom plate on my 4.7m SIB states the maximum power is 60 Kw (80 hp). There are SIBs rated for up to 175 hp.

The military routinely use 55 hp outboards in these boat, which are well within the design parameters with the aluminum floor boards. These are not light duty boats.

Lots of great F470 related threads in the North American section, here is one on this very topic:

Engine Capacity for Zodiac FC-470

By the way, if the 18 gallon fuel bladder is new, $250 is a very good price. I've priced the 6 gallon versions through Zodiac mil-pro and they want close to $1000 for those. Another option is to use the Scepter Nato plastic jerry cans with the fuel pick up caps.

I have the 18 gallon and a 6 gallon. I'm going to keep the 6 as a back up.
