Thanks for all the suggestions. I took it out again on Monday morning and after fiddling with the trim settings it seems much better now. It still doesn't feel as quick as i'd hoped but I'm going to take it out again and use a gps to gauge the speed. Out of interest does anybody have any idea what kind of speed I should be getting?
