Never leave an octopus inside a sib

This is just a small report that might be useful in the future for some of you.

So I have been taking my sib for some spearfishing. Usually, when I catch something I put it in a basket inside the boat and carry on diving. The other day I caught an octopus and didn't bother putting it to sleep. I put it in the box and went back to the sea. Next thing I notice when I came back to the boat is that the octopus was gone. Thirst thought: Good for him. Go live your life outside a pan.

Didn't think about it for a while until some days ago my boat started to smell really nasty. Guess what? The octopus didn't find it's way back to the sea. It went through the hole in the wood panel for the keel valve and started to rot there. I had to take it apart and clean it but the smell isn't all gone yet.

Moral of the story: never leave an alive octopus inside a sib without supervision.

Normally it's the gulls that get to the fish and make them disappear!! At least it is when I'm out spearfishing! Where do you go?

Portugal.

I only had that problem once when they attacked the cuttlefish in my float. Otherwise no problems with them.

I prevented that stinky experience, as I watched a crawfish, aka crawdad, aka mini lobster crawl under the floorboards, while cleaning my boat. We did a cleanup on one of our local lakes, and much of my boat was filled with empty beer bottles. Turns out the bottles made for a great crawfish home. I extracted 5 of them from the boat itself total, but the bottles held many more. My bigger fear was a raccoon or some other animal would chew/claw the boat trying to get at the food.

Signal Crayfish are now decimating UK waterways.

Perhaps a Grey Squirrel?
