Need Weather Conditions Advise

Hi Everyone,
I am new to boating. I have recently bought myself 3.80m Defender xpro commando, aluminium deck inflatable with 15hp Yamaha 4 stroke engine. I would like to do sea fishing with it. Can anyone please advise me on what would be the recommended sea conditions forecast,wind,knots,mph etc. Thank you

thats down to you and what you can handle. I took my Aerotec in a f4. good fun but got close to the limits

You say your new to boating is that virgin new or been out a little.

Hi Dave ive only been out once on it just outside port of dover. The weather was very hot and nice but the sea was quite a bit rough. I was drifting so fast it used to take me back to where I was in the matter of 5-10 minutes. Other people has recommended to avoid Dover but I have also heard its a good fishing area being deep sea. Any area suggestions? I would be more than happy if I could catch 4-5 sea bass or bream.

Best bet is do your RYA level 2 powerboat course it will teach you the basics and what you need (VHF, flares etc) the rest is experience. The weather can change very very quick so the weather you launch in is not the weather you're necessarily fishing in... Or try to return in.

A lot of it is local knowledge.... tides, currents, wind direction etc and how that effects the sea conditions

Get some professional training!
This will include being able to assess seas states and the impact of wind (direction & speed) on tides.

Hi Eddy
You have a nice seaworthy little package there, so you will eventually get some good use at sea, including fishing.

There are too many variables to respond accurately to your question, but I would say get some handling and control hours under your belt in sheltered waters, before risking a bad weather sea trip.

Only professional training and experience will allow you to assess safe weather conditions and your boat's capability.

Do it properly from the outset and you will have many years of happy boating. Just don't take any risks if you are unsure.

Herne Bay in the Thames estuary is a good spot, and not too far from Dover.
Get some training and experience in good conditions and don't take any risks.

Just wanted to say thank you all for your quick positive suggestions. I will look into courses for sure. I have life jackets and vhf radio etc.
Herne bay also sounds good as I've read a little. I will probably try there in 2 weeks time. Off course if any of you fancy doing a bit of fishing, there is a space in the boat, just ask. Nice to know good people still exists out there. All the best!
