Narrow escape

Lifted my aerotec out of the front garden to clean it last night - 3 or 4 mice scattered as soon as I lifted it, they must have moved in since I had the boat out last sunday. Anyway, no holes in the boat which is a bit of a relief. Now wondering where the hell I can store it, theres mice and rats all over our neighbourhood..

Big mistake - they claw soft things!

Set it upside down on blocks of wood with clear space beneath - removing the shelter will discourage most pests. Make sure you leave no food traces on the boat - mice love chocolate and rats love fish smell. Worth extending that policy to the garden - no bbq bits or waste lying about - clear cover. Bait the perimeter with child safe bait boxes. Call in a napalm strike... oh, maybe not napalm

I do worry a little about the cat when a SIB is inflated in the garden. Like Willk says though we usually have it upside down off the ground.

However the fact the cat keeps the garage 100% clear is a huge benefit to packed SIBs overwintered there.

My second SIB was eaten by mice. I had stored it in various sheds and barns for years with no problems. Then I made the mistake of keeping a bag of birdseed in the garage. The mice must have thought it was an hotel: buffet and cosy accommodation. I got the boat out in the spring and there were holes in the floor that I could step through.

Go with advice mentioned and get the boat off the ground and get air circulating under it. Tarpaulins and such like look like an inviting camp, keeping the rain and wind out for mice and rats.

Found a solution - buying a big transit van for my work - will set up a space in the van for the sib from now on

The 2 legged vermin will have it if you keep it in a Transit.
