You need to over inflate to start with and then check with the pressure gauge, using a manual pump *in* a SIB is very tricky if not impossible for the HP floor!

How far is the crossing?

19 miles from bideford, about 16 of open sea. Lundy looks deceptively close owing to its height! Includes the infamous bideford bar crossing which has to be crossed at the top of the tide. I will do a trip report as and when we do it.

I can inflate the boat with a foot pump when it's in the water but you have to stand on the thwart..

no, i got gazumpted on it. but to be honest, having done some open sea trips i have decided that a 15 is ideal, power and weight wise. basically unless its flat calm then 12 to 15mph is the comfortable cruising speed and a 15 will achieve that with 3 adult and 1 child which is the maximum number of people i want to take out.
