Looking at putting a 20hp engine on 15hp rated Quicksilver 340..

Having just seen my 15hp Mariner die I am in the market for a new outboard. I may be able to get my hands on a 20hp which is light enough for the transom and would only be taking this out within the limited swells of a Med bay area, what do you guys think?

1. I may get a bigger SIB next year anyway and wont want to go through purchasing yet another outboard..

2. I have seen plenty of small SIBs out on the water waaaaay over their hp limits (I don´t want to follow this example, but feel I could be OK with an extra 5 horses..

3. The latest 340 Quicksilvers are all rated for 20hp now..

Thoughts...go for it? or toe the line?

Cheers!

Given that you are getting a new sib soon, I say go for it as long as you respect that you should probably not operate close to the motor limits.

It is interesting that the mercury inflatables went up in hp rating, there may have been a small change in the waterline.
