Life without lifters!

Recently upgraded my engine from a 8hp Yam to an 18hp Tohatsu 2stroke and thought i would try it with my home made lifters removed from my 35 ae Honwave hoping that i wouldnt notice much difference.
I think i have been a victim of my own success as its a bugger to plane from the holeshot now and also to get it to plane at about 5 knots you have to have someone in the boat or move to engine down 3 notches to get the nose down!
I know trim is key here but without power trim the lifters have done an ace job and i have rather taken them for granted and needless to say they will be going back on after i have redesigned them again!
For anyone who hasnt tried lifters and have wondered how they would improve a little sib just do what i did and make a pair out of some scrap aluminium fix them on and wonder how you ever did without them. Makes hell of a difference on my little boat anyway!

I assume you're talking about trim tabs?

Out of curiosity, how big did you make them?

Here are a couple of pics of the first ones i made.Second ones slightly bigger but need beefing up a bit but work great.Take a couple of pins out and i can still use the launch wheels too.

Hi tommo my first time on here any chance of some pics of your lifters im makeing my own now and could do with some ideas
