Definitely stick to the channel.
Dive boats wind me up. They seem to think they are immune from boat ramp etiquette and just block the ramp and access with their ribs. Especially at Kimmeridge.
When you launch turn right at the end of the rocks and follow the channel out past the commercial potter guy who moars there. Heading straight out from the ramp into the middle of the bay will take you right over several ledges. Be careful on spring tides.
Recovery can be very tricky with a moderate or stronger SW wind. The swell will be smacking into you either directly or to your side trying to put you onto the rocks.
