Kill cord? 2001 Mercury 15hp 4 stroke

Can anyone tell me if a kill cord is available for the above lump?
I’ve tried a universal one from fleabay and none of the 15odd keys seem to fit.

Perhaps I’m inserting it wrong? Photos of your insertion are welcome also [emoji2960]

This is the type you need:
https://tinyurl.com/y4w4xy4o

Switch in OFF position, insert kill cord terminal, switch to ON.

(If that's still not clear let me know and I'll take a photo in the light tomorrow)

cheers

Thanks mate, pretty sure I tried that shaped one - but it could well be a poorly cut copy.

If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind posting a pic of yours fitted please?

did you do as advised above? Move the red toggle on the switch to the off position, now hold the kill cord "loop"on top of the red toggle, push the red toggle back to run and the loop will be help in place.
pull the cord and the toggle will turn to the off position.
Apologies if this was already clear to you.

It is an odd arrangement I've always thought. Very convenient if the person with the kill cord goes out of the boat as you don't need to find the spare kill cord to restart and go get them if that's the scenario.

But that's the downside too that it's very easy to realise it will run with no kill cord and they get forgotten.

Just made a short video (mp4) showing fitting and operation of Mercury kill-cord but can't find any way to post it on here

Hopefully this will help.

The loop has to hang vertically and it locates in a slot behind the 'RUN' label.

Chaps, Thank you for the positive responses.

I was trying to use the keys as you would in a door lock, inserting into the switch rather than pulling down on it - Hence why I couldn't find one that fitted.

Feel proper daft now knowing how simple it is...

The genuine manufacturers cords do seem better quality than the cheaper copies - they run a central reinforced core ( some of the less-expensive options don't ) which is less prone to failing when you need it most........
