How fast ?

Hi

I've been asked by the insurance company how fast my sib might go, I have no idea !

I have an old (1983) Zodiac M2 Compact (3.8m) with a similar age Yamaha 25hp 2 stroke.

Anyone have any ideas ? Or can point me in the direction of somewhere I can find out.

Thanks

Its a good combination, easiest and most exact way is to get a free GPS app on a mobile phone.

From experience, the insurance company is not looking for an exact figure, they just want to know if its non planing, planing, quick (50kts +) or Flippin Quick (65kts +). I think yours will do around 20kts + or -2kts, based on a 3.8 Futura FR doing 26kts with the same engine.

Check the small boat policy on Craftinsure.

thanks guys..

I've had a couple of quotes on the basis of 28knots (so my guess wasn't too far away) tried boatinsure, insuremyboat/compare boat insurance.

Both have fully comp quotes for around £150 but insuremyboat has one which is much lower at £90.

The £90 one seems to do everything that I want (includes towable toys), is there anything I should be aware of or checking ? being a novice !

yes! i got a quote once which i decided to read all the small print on, and very glad i did too as it said that when the boat was away from home it had to be stored inside a locked building and chained to the floor! not much chance of that happening anywhere really so it wouldnt have been worth anything at all! dont worry about the speed part as it will be in different levels ie up to 30kts or 40kts. last year i swapped from a 75hp to a 120hp and as long as its max was 40kts the premium didnt change at all.

It's in the small print though. Read it.

the fastest i clocked with a 15 on an excell was 20mph if i remember right 30kts is the figure craftinsure state ?

i think you would struggle to hit this safely before turning power off with a 25hp

i found my boat started to plane about 12mph and performed better with a couple of passengers
