honwave T32 - fitting launch wheels

I bought a new T32 today, I now need the relevant launch wheels
MES marine sell honwave compatible wheels so I might try these

Have any of you chaps fitted wheels to a t32? Do I need to drill holes in to the transom?

I think the OE wheel legs go into a socket thing that's bolted to the transom in the four corners of its backing plate. Not sure if the copy types are the same.

So with the two legs perhaps eight drillings?

BTW I reckon a really good SIB choice. Look forward to hearing how it goes with the 15hp.

Shouldn't be too difficult to fit then hopefully

Thanks 😀

I'll be posting my opinions on ribnet as soon as I've tried it.... Hoping 15hp will be adequate

If they're the same as the T-38 wheels (which I think they are) then it's as Fenlander says, 8 holes, some Sikaflex and job's a goodun!

Boy did I hate drilling that new transom but the original Honwave wheels are very very good, easy to use, easy to stow whilst on the water and easily take the 100kg ish of boat plus 20hp and other gubbins.

Enjoy your drilling!

you will like it and its perfect with a 15hp very nippy make sure if you buy copy wheels you get the heavy duty version because some of the cheaper ones are a bit wobbly and bendy .tbh for the sake of £60 or so I would get the gen ones

I believe they are the same wheels t32/t38

I'm going to look at he Europa wheel kit before I buy it, just seems a bit expensive for genuine Honda kit, and yes I am nervous about drilling into my new toy :-)

Good point beer belly, might be wise to buy genuine for peace of mind, anyone know best price for genuine Honda wheels?

I've not seen the genuine Honwave ones under £190-£200 recently... the Europa's are £130. I'd love to see them side by side before deciding if it were me but guess there's nowhere that's going to happen.

I got these for my 3.2 airfloor from Barnet Marine http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Inflatable-B...-/400702865224
Not sure if that's what you're after? They are suitable for boat with trim tabs

Use marine grade sealant, stainless nuts/bolts and if you end up bolting sockets to the transom watch they dont dig into the rubber when rolling the boat back up. I made a couple of protective foam caps (gaffa tape and wide foam pipe insulation)

Fenlander commented on this in a post a while back, there are other posts about launch wheels, a forum favourite :-)

If the wheels you get are the same as the link then leave enough room for the outboard to turn on full lock each way. The heavy duty wheels carry my fully loaded sib (Inc 15hp outboard & fuel) with ease, no bend or movement

Congratulations on the boat - we need the ubiquitous 'SIB test inflated in lounge shot' please.

These wheel things are silly money. I wonder (having made a few sets of transom wheels - the simpler straight type - see link below) if you could find a small custom exhaust or roll cage manufacturer and ask them to custom bend some small bore stainless steel tubing and then fit brackets and some suitable wheels. Hate getting ripped off!

I'll be passing MES marine on Friday with my job, I'll call in if I have time... Would be good if he stocks genuine honwave to compare, but they aren't listed on his web site

On the MES site it states the Europa wheels are solid rubber - I've heard this isn't great and pneumatic wheels are far more preferable, I personally have no experience so just passing on my understanding rather than my personal view:

"solid rubber tyres for added durability"

The other link is for wheels that cost £170... for that price I'd go genuine for peace of mind, in fact I'm sure you could bag a set of Honwave ones for that price. Also, on the ebay link it talks about them potentially getting in the way of larger engines when inverted - I've not experienced this with my Honwave wheels and a 20HP on the back - this is because the Honwave set have 2 positions for the wheels:

- straight down for wheeling
- upside down but angled outwards

i.e. they have 2 position holes for the wheels in the bracket/wheel struts - might be worth checking of this is the same for these Barnet Marine ones - it does make a difference when they are inverted on the back of the boat.

It all depends where you launch, the flatter very wide solid 'sand hopper' type are much better on sand, shingle, small pebbles than the pneumatic ones unless you go large. The typical pneumatics are pretty small so can be terrible on those surface (sand, much shingle etc) but they are better on concrete slip ways etc.

In my link you can see the wide flat type, I made a set of transom wheels with small pneumatics once but they were useless on our Sussex beaches.

The set you made look really good Max

I also hate getting ripped off, I don't doubt the quality of the genuine honwave wheels but I cant imagine they cost much to manufacture and distribute

The only issue with getting a set made...... I need them asap so I can play with my new toy

Living room/conservatory pics to follow shortly 🛥

Yeh, but you'll go 100 miles on a thimble full of fuel unlike those big fancy RIB guys ;-)
