It's not going to be the ultimate white-knuckle ride, but I reckon you could still have some fun with it.

A regular size ringo (not one of the huge inflatables) in good conditions, with one person in the boat would probably be OK.

Whats it rated to? Isn't is about 40hp?
If it is I'd get a 40hp for it. The 20hp will struggle.

That was my thinking too but I bow to JK's superior knowledge.

I had a Zodiac the same size with a Johnson 25hp on and that did 17kts yes it was fun but it would have struggled oulling the skin off rice pudding.

Ages ago I had a 4.something Avon with a 25hp that went like a rocket on the odd occasion when everything worked. Looking at the spec for the Grand Raid it does look pretty hefty, and is rated to 50hp with 40hp recommended, so I concede that a 20 might be a bit weedy.

I'm still confident that you could have plenty of fun with it though - anything bigger than 25hp is going to be a struggle to lug about on land so it's going to be a compromise either way.

same question, smaller SIB. Guess I already know the answer. But here goes... a mercury quicksilver 340 with a johnson 15 two stroke. GPS at 21mph with 1 up. Kinda already bought the ringo for a couple of hefty nieces and nephews. Will it ever get on plane (towed ringo)? not looking for a white knuckle ride mind you but not keen on keelhauling them either!!!

Regards the Zodiac Grand Raid - fantastic boats, but fit the recommended maximum horse power engine. If it's tiller-controlled, a 40hp would do just dandy. Pretty sure it's short shaft.

Guess the question answers itself. Well, if ti turns out the answer is anything other than the obvious, I will post to let everyone know. I will have the kids in the beginning of July so I figured I can make any changes or modifications prior to their getting here. But if not, nothing beats a failure but a try. :0
