Gigha - Kintyre Scotland

Happy New Year Folks,

I'm considering doing a wee trip around the island of Gigha sometime this year, but I'm looking for a pier to launch from on the mainland.

The most convenient one appears to be the Tayinloan Ferry Pier. Does anyone here know if you can get access to it for launching and recovery, or of any other suitable alternatives in the area?

Zodiac, I can't give you any definite advice. You need to be aware that the tayinloan ferry terminal (that's what calm call it!) is due for a major overall in 2012, and what was possible in previous years may not be during engineering work, or following its completion.

My memory from about 15 yrs ago was the slip was just a concrete ramp which if the ferry was not operating was open and unmanned. However during peak season the ferry is fairly frequent so it may not be possible during the day. Might be worth a call to calmac?

Hi as one who ribs to G often during the season its a lovely island and very interesting, good food & drink too!!
I usually come down from Loch Sween so I do not luanch from the mainland side but know it quiet well and as Neil says there is not much in the way of slips on the Mull. Tayinloan is I think the only one within reasonable distance. You could if your rig allowed beach luanch.
Hope you have a great trip maybe bump into you.
