Floor Cover

Is it possible to put non slip flooring on a sibs wooden or aluminium floor? It may not only protect the floor but also increase traction and stop a bit of noise. Anyone has any experience? Thanks!

You can buy none slip paints that have grit in them. Could you paint the floor boards with this?

Hi, thanks for your response but painting is not really an option. I was looking more for some kind of floor cover or matting solution that I can put down and also remove as needed.

I've been thinking the same thing, I wanted to use Skydex IMBD, haven't got a price yet but it's starting to sound like it's ridiculously expensive. I'm interested to see what other people come up with.

If you look at post number 9 here... http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?...ighlight=geoff it shows a interlocking rubber mat that B and Q sell. It helps stop noise if you drop something (ie. a lead) on the floor and can be cut to shape.

I had Dri-Dek in my Achilles. Expensive, but it worked well. A little hard on bare feet, but for me that wasn't much of an issue (too cold for bare feet most of the time.)

Don't know if the new owner left it in or pulled it out.

I got some rubber matting for the same purpose. Great advantage was it was custom cut. You can enter required length and width so it fits your sibs wooden or aluminium floor. Make sure that you get rubber mats that allow water to drain through (with holes like in NP's pic) otherwise the whole flooring starts floating when the boat is flooded.

I made a great floor mat for my old boat. It was tedious, but free. I got a roll of rubber which was material from a conveyor belt at a gravel pit. It was heavy duty; about 1/4" thick with a textile layer in the centre. I cut it out to fit my floor exactly. I cut the edges on an angle so they fit under the track rails. Then I took a hole punch (looks like a chisel with a circular cutting end) and punched a pattern of holes into most of it, excepting the sloped bow section, close enough together so no water would be trapped. It was excellent!

Specialistmats.co.uk offer a huge range of rubber matting which may well be suitable for your requirements.

How long have you had these on your floor? I'm curious because I've read reviews that they aren't very durable. It looks like it'd be pretty comfortable.
I'm also wondering about issues with dirt, debris, etc getting stuck in the holes. It seems like it would be a pita to keep clean if you do much boating in sandy/muddy areas or in areas with much kelp or seaweed.

Why is painting not an option? While not really a paint, I would recommend taking it in and having a good quality bed-liner applied (as in pick-up truck bed) if you really want a long-lasting non-skid soft material on your floor boards. The quality ones are very durable and almost indestructible. I have it in my F150 bed for over 10 years, hauling rock, gravel, sand, etc. and it is amazing. Besides very durable, it is easy on the knees and feet, is cool in the sun and is very non-slip. You can get it in many different colors. Although this would last the life of your boat, the really big down side is that it is fairly expensive.

A very cheap option is outdoor carpet from lowes, home depot, or some other supplier. It has a rubberized backing so it doesn't slip around, is easy to cut to size/shape, and is in-expensive. You can cut it to fit exactly, and easily remove it to hose off when dirty. It usually is easy to find in either gray or black colors.

Zodiac has a non slip painted surface on its aluminum floorboards right from the factory, why couldn't you DIY?
