Did have a scull and crossbones on ,but me mates never liked it,don t know why ,boring buggers, had it on a crocadile clip,clipprd on the transom and an old telscopic fishing rod cut down and poked through the clip taped on,worked a treat.

Hi, a proper job would be to use a wooden Staff (flag pole) fixed to the transome using a flag pole socket that is normally made from stainless steel.

The flag you would fly would be an Ensign

I use a dive flag fairly often. It is zip tied onto a PVC pipe and has a nice spot to rest on the floor in the port side against the transom. Then I tie it in place with a thin cord. NEVER up when underway, instead it is stored on the port side floor board. The flag was originally setup for my kayak.

Fishing rod holders that can be mounted at a slight angle to straighten the transom angle out worth great. As said above a wooden dowel works great since it will float, or just glue/cap the PVC ends off of some scrap 3/4" PVC pipe.

Ordered the Ensign yesterday. Was going to fix a bit of stainless tube to the transom and drop the pole in it.

Was just curious if others had done similar.

Yep, I reckon that would work well

The poles are normally teak, like this one:

But you can use whatever you like really.

I tend to fly the Letter U (Uniform) Flag

A capped length of PVC tube (or Ali or SS tube) screwed to the transom will hold a flag on a pole quite well. Builder put a 8" section of aluminum tube on my A-frame to do this; simple and easy to raise or lower flag.

Our boat has provision for 2 flags, one on each side of the stern. A stainless base that a teak flagpole sits in. Always wondered what flags to put.
