fishfinder/sonar

hi guys ...
I know I don't post often ... but just a heads up on a bloody good deal ...
I am nothing to do with the company or know anyone there ...

I had done my research ... knew my budget ... and ordered a Garmin 201dv as it was the best I could afford ... ordered it from Amazon ... and awaited my new toy ...
Amazon ... cancelled my order ... apparently it wasn't available

so I searched again ...
and am now the proud owner of a raymarine dragonfly 5dvs ... way out of my budget range!!!
if it weren't for Charity&Taylor who are currently selling it at a 55% discount!! ... it was actually cheaper than I was going to buy the garmin for!!
Raymarine DragonFly Fish Finders

many thanks too to a Philip Marshall there who was really helpful when I emailed a query ...

Wow - the Dragonfly 5m chartplotter for £198 with Europe Navionics silver charts. Lowest price I've seen. Has anyone used this unit? Is it any good?

It usually is, don't see why it wouldn't be - unless you want certain charts not already pre loaded on the plotter ones. Be worth checking first with the company.

That looks like a proper bargain.

I've only heard good things about these units.

The Navionics silver charts are very basic, or at least they were the last time I looked. They are a hook to get you to upgrade.

Thanks! I've just ordered the Dragonfly 5 Pro. Much as I like the Lowrance unit I currently have the imaging on the Dragonfly was too good not to investigate further. Especially with the I phone app and saving data direct onto the phone then PC. Could be very useful me thinks

I've got a Dragonfly 7. Came with appropriate wiring, transducer & upgrade to small Gold chart for the area I wanted.
You do need to carefully read the various offers as the cheapest may not include a transducer & charts which AFAIAC is a bit of a con.
Very pleased with it, although the boat image to show your position makes the QE2 look like a rowing boat.
The transducer is on the big side but other than that no issues & is robust.
If fishing is quiet you can watch the track of the fall & retrieve of your lure so if it doesn't show any fish there probably aren't any!

Isn't there anything in the set up menu to alter the size?

Not that I've found. There were comments on the net about this before I bought it. It is on the big side but you get used to it

Looks like a good deal, it is a chart plotter only right? Not a sonar?

I believe all the dragonfly series are both, CHIRP and downvision being the relevant words for the sonar.
But best check whether those that don't mention 'chart included' in the sales pitch will work as chart plotters.
I've not tried mine without the card installed so would be interested to know what sort of pic you get.

Just been on phone to them. There are 3 options fishfinder only. plotter and fishfinder no map no sonar. Then the pro that got it all. They just put the price up £100 on the pro lucky I got it at the lower price. 😃

As far as I can make out on the Raymarine website this is a GPS chart plotter only. No transducer included.

here is a link that tells you what each model does ...
Dragonfly 4 Comparison | Raymarine Dragonfly
at the bottom of the page ...

I got the DVS model which is just a fishinder/sonar (I know some folk on here hate them being called a fishfinder!!)

the M model is purely a GPS / Chartplotter ...

and the PRO model is both Sonar and chartplotter ...

hope that helps ...
