I've got a mercury 15hp on a small rib, be careful with the tiller extension on in the river. I ended up in some trees on the Trent because the tiller extension was not strong enough to turn the engine when up on the plane, it simply bent at the plastic between the shaft and tiller grip.

Which model tiller extension was it? I need one and want to make sure I don't buy the same model!

I don't think there's a name on it but I'll check tomorrow. In fact I'll put a photo up because you can see where the plastic creased instead of turning the outboard

Did you push the extension all the way on the tiller?
I've seen them bend like that before, but due to incorrect figment .
I have a tiller extension, it's a little flimsy on the rivets, but it certainly doesn't bend

I use this one no bending and is fine on the plane. I would however get the non-extendable one if I was to buy again. For me it's plenty long enough at the shortest setting.
