+1 on the pet floation device with handle. My Newfoundlands can swim for awhile but I can't get them back aboard without a handle. I have not had an issue with with either PVC or hypalon fabric tolerating their claws.

The flotation devices with handles are a good idea. I discovered this when the collie pup that just learned to swim decide to jump overboard and swim a half mile to shore.

A wet 30 lb dog is quite the handful to get a good grip on. Funny part was it took him a hour to get into the water that morning, the waves kept chasing him out if the water the he would turn and bite them.

Now when he is in the boat he stands on the left rear tube beside the motor and bites the waves as they pass.

Not saying dog life jacket isn't the way to go, but my dog has a grab handle permanently round her neck called a dog collar
Use it all the time to get her back in the boat no problem

Hi Nick - think your dog may thank you for a life jacket with a handle linked to 3 body straps, even if it's a wide fabric collar, given the extra weight when wet.

Can highly recommend the Crewsaver pet float as featured a few times in this thread.

Good for lifting and a draining pocket for poo bags and a lead.

Just watched a spaniel being "rescued" after missing the pontoon. Images of Saddam during his last few seconds sprung to mind. At least the lead and collar worked rather well.

I can highly recommend the ezydog bouyancy aid for dogs it's got neoprene under straps and is designed to keep the dogs head above the water so to give them more confidence.

Hes a lovely looking fella .... my black bitch is the best mutt Ive ever had .. they will get hot quickly though, in those jackets because their coat is very dense next to the skin ... worth keeping an eye out if its really sunny

Too right .. mine dives to pick up stuff from the bottom Ive never seen a dog do that (she'll go 20 inches or so)

Our old cocker would dive down for things couldn't keep her out of the water , the 2 I have now don't like getting there feet wet.

They are funny that way .. my girl doesent like going out in the rain .. but she loves the water

I think its a sense of duty .. particularly if they have a gun dog parentage

She is also a practiced sock or underpant 'stealer' from the washing basket, which she takes to her bed and guards, as if they were her own pups .. I took a photo of her one night after I hung up a load of my boiler suits which I thought was funny .. it was a '' Nobody touches those boilersuits till I know where the master is going" type shot.
