Boats, Dogs and babies

I have been wanting a boat of some kind for ages but lacked the space to store one so was well pleased when I saw the inflatables around these days while I was on holiday this summer......and I have finally convinced my wife what a good idea it would be to get one.

We usually go on holiday to the Italian lakes (as my wife is Italian) so that is going to be where we use it most for a couple of weeks each year, then there will be a bit of cruising around on inland waterways in the UK and the occasional bit or messing around in the sea with rings and stuff.

I am pretty much decided to go for a Honwave T38 with a used engine around 20hp, from posts here it looks like the inflatable floor is a lot easier to mount and carry than the aluminium floors .........then my wife mentioned the dog the other day who I had forgotten about.

Our dog is alright in our canoe and I will get him one of the doggy life jackets but does anyone have any experience of dogs in Honwaves with air floors? People have mentioned the tubes earlier in this post but is he likely to rip the floor? He is a half border collie and half staff with claws that aren't too long or sharp.

Last question (and maybe this belongs in a different thread) anyone got experience of babies on SIB's? My little girl will be nearly a year old by the time we I get the boat and engine, I've seen lifejackets for new-borns so I will definitely get one of those but any other thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks

Dogs enjoying the RIB and SIB. I have got a lifejacket on the Weimaraner as he weighs 70KG and is difficult to get hold of when wet, so the handle comes in useful.

Though not sib related a few years ago a lad i know bought an old wood fishing boat from whitby & decided to sail it back to Teesmouth run of about 18 miles , He took along his mate who turned up with his dog , They get out of Whitby & start running up the coast , everything great , weather ok sea calm , engine running great , dogs asleep , about 10 mins later dog suddenly jumps up starts attacking something ( whats up with the dog ) " oh hes ok he's just playing about with an old rag or something ? " Within seconds theres gallons of water pouring in the boat when the dogs only gone & chewed through the rubber water intake pipe for the engine .
