I seem to recall someone had a little side-mount steering mount for smallish inflatables. I'll see if I can find a link.

Portability

Portability.
I was thinking this would be very portable with minimum weight. When I go camping, fishing I fill my sib up with all the equipment. Having a centre console would cut down on stuff I could bring with me.

Space efficiency is a huge priority for me as well when trying to organize my layout (which is why I use the rigged upright jerry cans). You really can't beat a tiller for space efficiency, portability and control in challenging conditions.

This was not the one I was thinking of, but it's sort-of similar:

http://www.allinflatables.com/shoppi...elm/index.html

This one's closer, but still not the same:

http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?...F&WT.mc_id=gb1

Can't seem to find the original one I was remembering. It was basically a cross between the two: side-mounted (to either floor or one tube - don't remember now), the "face" prtion of the console was a U-shaped bit of tubing, so it only reached a third of the way across the boat.

Personally, I think a glance at the products, and a visit to a local fabricator would be the route to go. You could also build in spots to mount VHF/GPS/FF unit(s) as required.
