Nos; when backpacking, we used to use Ensolite; it's a closed cell sponge rubber mat. Stuff we used was about 1/2" thick, but it was available in thicker (and thinner - hardcore backpackers didn't view comfort as more important than weight.)

Ensolite was good as it insulated you from the ground pretty effectively, and wasn't too bad in the weight department. Lighter than an equivalent air mattress (at least one that would last for a couple-week outing.) No idea on cost now though.

Bought and fitted this today...20 mm thick 3ft 6 square two pieces were 40 it weighs 2 kg..its fairly soft one sides green the other blue...it floats n doesn't absorb water....should save our knees lol
