Hi Si, sorry to pee on your strawberries, but that's more dinghy/tender than sib, but well done anyway. If it says max hp 4 on the plate, then that's yer lot. What length is it? Our 2.3 Quicksilver is rated at 5hp.

If it's rated for max 4 you can place a 5, usually both models weights same, if finding a 2 strokes, much better, weights much less compared to same 4 strokes models. BTW, which lenght is it, is it a slatted, wooden or alum panel floor sib ?

Happy Boating

Thanks lads! It's a 2.5M, looking forward to getting out on it! It will probably sit in the lift until I get an engine which is a shame though

I have a very nice wee Evinrude 3.3HP for around £200 plus postage of about £25 if that would be of any interest?

It is a direct drive 2 stroke which is lovely and light. Has had very little use and apart from some scratches due to storage in the bow of the rib.

Cheers

The boat will have a maximum hull speed rating as well as a maximum engine BHP.

Be careful if you exceed the design speed limit. I have a 2.85m Zodiac and it is rated to 8hp and a maximum design speed of 17mph.

With my 6hp Mariner it would do 14-15mph.

I now have a Tohatsu 9.8 hp on it which will push it to 20mph. At speeds over 17mph the boat becomes harder to steer and feels less stable.
