>>>My understanding of the factory primer is that it chemically crosslinks with the glue as it is applied.

Ahh OK... just wondering.

A lot of guys prime the wood with hypalon glue because it sticks to the wood and then the pvc glue sticks to the hypalon glue.

What I have read is sand the transom
Then prime with hypalon glue
Then glue with pvc glue.

But what do I know I am new to all this!

So I emailed Bostik Netherlands with one simple question: where can I buy Bostik Vinycol ? I got a short and strange answer: We don't know and we can't help you.

Does anyone know of a UK supplier with reasonable shipping rates to NL ?

For MEK, try professional paint supply stores (Maybe try a BASF distributor?), or resin supply companies.

if you go on the polymarine web site there are two downloads for gluing PVC & HYPALON fabrics.

Sand the wood and degrease with MEK.
Prepare a small amount of the Bostik Vinycol 1520 (75 ml), mix.
Add an equal amount of MEK (75 ml), bringing your total pot to 150 ml. Mix.
The solution will be VERY thin.
Apply 3 coats to the wood, allowing 5 min between coats.

After the final coat, wait a minimum of about 2 hours (or until the next day ideally) for the glue to dry completely.

If you feel the surface of the wood after the solution is cured, you'll notice that it will have a smooth feel to it. That's what you want.

Then simply do a standard layup. Coat of glue on the transom, coat of glue on the PVC, wait a few minutes...repeat 3 times, then press it together and burnish it in place.

No, we haven't had the right weather-conditions yet (still cold and wet).

Hello Piotr !
I have the same problem at my 2001 Zodiac, only partial detachments in the transom side. It has been some time since the last post ... I would like to ask if you have managed to stick and what materials did you use ? Thank you

Hi Piotr. This seam doesn't look too bad, as Fenlander has said, you may be able to get away with some glue and a self repair. Mine was worse and I took it to Banyard repairs in Lostwithiel Cornwall, it may be worth getting a quote if it gets worse from Ed Banyard.
