Bombard Aerotec

Well, I decided that owning two boats is better than one. I now have a bombard aerotec 380 (wanted one for years!), its a grey one so a little unusual. The guy I bought it from told me that the grey ones are newer - but this is wrong as I see red ones still for sale new, but no grey ones. I was wondering if anyone knew when the grey ones were made.
It seems to have seaping seams on the air floor at the back, much like some of the others on here, but is otherwise in immaculate condition. An afternoon of patching and it should be good as new.

I'm also on the lookout for a nice outboard for it, I'd love a tohatsu 18 but if anyone knows of any nice 15-20hp engines about, I'd love to hear from you!

Best wishes, and happy SIBing

One more little question.
I am planning on packing the boat up after use and definitely not trailering it. It will be for light usage, 2 up at most, with a bit of kit on board.
Given that, would a 9.8 tohatsu be man enough to get it up on the plane? Obviously its a nice light engine that would make hefting from a car boot / campervan to transom a lot simpler.

You might get it on the plane with a 9.8 but it will struggle. It's a cracking little engine, but doesn't really have enough oomph for a 380. You want a 15hp 2-stroke.

thanks john,
yeah i suspected it wouldnt be speedy with it, but seeing as how nashers bombard has a 9.9 and seems to work ok I thought it was a viable solution.
A 15 probably will be best, I expect the flexibility of the larger engine will offset the mildly larger annoyance factor when lugging it from the camper to the transom.

Absolutely. It will work with a 9.8, but you'll spend most of the time wishing you had a bit more. A 15 is easy enough to manage, especially if you have decent launching wheels.
