For some reason the pace of this holiday is different to our Scottish ones and we've been doing rather than photographing... and when I've had the camera it's not been when boating.

I might chuck up a couple... I'll have a look through to see if anything looks interesting enough for non-family..

Ha ha no problem.

Well I've found a few that have got past the "I don't want that on Ribnet" censor.

Evening view towards Shaldon bridge from cottage patio garden.

Slipway adj cottage at low tide.

Recovering to slipway at high tide. Cottage is by that low black wall on the right so a very short trundle.

Not much of a traditional beer drinker but essential sparkling Chardonnay, gin and vintage cider in fridge... not much room for food.

Hols still going well... quite amazing we have experienced 5 dry days out of 6... our holidays of the last few years further north have had a ratio the other way round.

We had a great run out last night to Maidencombe on a lovely long swell with a small popple on top where we could go flat out without any jarring... that's a sea state we rarely experience and so much more fun for a SIB than the usual short chop.

Our boating is slightly restricted this holiday as we have our dog who at 13 is just starting to suffer with stiff joints and it's not fair to crash about too much.

Met a large ship and the dredger on the way back in... we don't meet anything that large in our home area estuary.

So far the Teign entrance has been quiet but from the swirling waters you can see how it would kick up in the wrong weather. The flow is quick and coming back with the tide it seems to add about 4kts to the speed you'd expect at just above tickover.

Images of... dog, ship, dredger, evening return into estuary mouth, almost back at the slip.

Cider and gin taken a hammering but wine will suffer more when 22yr old daughter comes down on the train tomorrow to join us for a few days!

I do wonder if the forum members who live here realise just how lucky they are. Wife and daughter are going round the wildlife park and as he's not allowed in I'm sitting in sun by the Ness Hotel with the dog watching and photographing boats entering and exiting the harbour mouth. If you're not on the boat very much a next best thing.

Glad hol is going well.

You're right, I appreciate the area far more now I don't live overlooking the Teign & Lyme Bay.

The tide does run fast in the estuary.....what fun I had saling with Shaldon Sailing Club with the fixed start line across to the Point in any tide or wind!

.

I was out there this evening (about a mile out) and we had a visit from the Two Annes (Teignmouth Lifeboat) ........ apparently somebody on shore had reported a small boat in trouble .......... but we were fine and catching a few fish, so they went off toward shag rock / Parson & clark to do a sweep of the coastal area.

The coasters go in and out on most tides .......... mostly they are loading with clay but sometimes are bringing in fertilizer. There has been the odd accident or two ............ last year the pilot got it wrong and as the ship swung around the point it wiped out half a dozen boats on the salty deep water moorings .........

Did you see the pilot boat ? .......... that has a cool 900hp ..... they use it to shunt the coasters up against the quay.

The river entrance gets rough on a spring ebb for about 300m from the lucette beacon (that is the little white lighthouse on the training wall). On springs we get a 6 knt flow...........

During winter an easterly will send waves clean over the point carpark !

Glad you are having a good holiday ........... this has been one or our better summers ...........

Looks great, I'm still getting over post hoilday blues so I'm well gel as they say,
I used to hoilday in that area myself around 10 years ago but found it so dog unfriendly that I stopped going,(has this changed?) as after seeing your photos I quite fancy a trip back
Hope the weather hold and smooth sailing

gps... Bet it was an odd feeling to have the RNLI bearing down on you I presume at callout speed. As I do at every opportunity went to look at Two Anne's the other day... put something in the tin... refresh my car stickers... buy key rings new hats etc.

Mrs Fenlander quite fancied the deck space in that 8.5m lifeboat... but it just wouldn't fit our garage.

The Arancia was inflated and leaning up so I could only see the underside but I've never seen one and would like to as they seem similar to the Aerotec in some ways.... well the same length at least and they nip about in the surf.

Yep the weather seems to be very favourable at the moment. Our tally is still just one day with rain out of eight here. I see looking forward to the first three days of whoever takes the place after us it's due to be sunny too so since we arrived that would make 16 virtually dry days with modest winds and sea state.

Yep did see the pilot boat behind the coaster and in front of dredger. I assume the dredger has some sort of special steering like water jets(??) given the way it could slew across the channel causing us to cozy up to the moored boats for safety.

Mickhitch... I guess it depends how dog friendly you want it. We accept taking the dog limits things like certain shops, the supermarkets, museums etc. But we have found a very acceptable beach front eatery in Shaldon (The Clipper) which allows dogs inside... a dog friendly café in Tegnmouth... plus the art gallery welcomed him but we were buying. We have been on The Ness beach in Shaldon and Back Beach Teignmouth where dogs can go anywhere so we're happy with that... the main beaches in both places do not allow dogs in the summer which is fair enough.

Even places where we have asked but he was not allowed have been apologetic in a friendly way rather than serves you right for bringing him.
