I pump the tubes so my fist bounces off it and the keel so it inflates with me stood on the floor boards.

Welcome to the forum!

if the nose folds up when in use stick more air in the tubes! they tend to soften a bit when in the cold water. Its got to be pretty darn firm to get the best performance. as chewy says, the fist test gets my vote failing a real pressure gauge!

There are a couple of posts with images from Avon brochures here:

http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread....ight=avon+S400

Pressure wise, I would suggest 2psi to 2.5 psi.

You can get adapter sets that should fit your valves:

http://www.rib-shop.com/product.asp?...D=166&P_ID=238

Might be worth checking the inner diameter of your pump hose and valve, and giving Rib Shop a call to check the set includes a suitable adapter.

Cheers

Avon sport boat s400

I have an S400 from 1977 that is in great shape. Mine has the wood floorboards and older valves. If anyone needs dimensions I can check mine and post pics too.

Shotgun,

Can you post some pictures of the floor, and the stringers that go on the sides? I need to duplicate these for my S400.

Does yours have the red bow cover?

Thanks!

Hi there

I'm now starting to get the wood together as I have an old S4-00 with the heavy aluminium stringers but no floor. I intend to make the floor in 2 pieces, rather than 4 which I've seen in most pictures. Does the bow board need to be separate from these to allow the boat to flex or can I make this part of the 2 piece floor?

The bow board should be separate so it flexes.

Cheers

RIBase
The bow board needs to be separate from memory-If I remember correctly it's at a slight angle to the rest of the floor.

That's great, thanks

Looks as though it'll be a 3 piece floor then. I had better go shopping for some marine ply.

Krazykev,

Could you please post some photos of the stringers for the floor of your S400? I have the opposite problem you have, I've got the floor boards, but no stringers. If I could see what they look like I'll be able to find a substitute. Thanks!

This is the only photo I can find of one of the stringers from my old Avon S250 - I imagine those for the S400 are about the same.

Cheers

Here you go. I took these pics yesterday. In case you need the length, there are 2 of these at 169cm long.

pics of my S4-00 as I bought it

Here are some pics I took of my S4-00 as I bought it.

I think the first job is a good cleaning with some cheap washing up sponges and plently of Acetone as I managed to find some of the original red after a 5 minute clean in one area.
All the valves are in great condition with no leakage & the only repair required is about an inch long on the right hand side front section. I'm impressed by this as I was told it had a massive hole in it which I couldn't miss. I was working on the basis that if the boat was dead I would have plenty of patch material but it's not too bad.
Strangely enough when I got it I couldn't believe the weight, until I found out how much water was in the keel due to it being left outside with the valve open.

Realistically, it could do with a brand new transom but as it's not totally gone I might dry it, drill into it & fill it with resin. This depends on time available & the mood I'm in at the time.

Does anyone fancy measuring their floorboards & taking some pictures as it will save me a lot of work making templates?

When I get it clean, sometime during spring, I'll post some more pictures.

Are you still working on this project or is this post no longer active? I have same boat and trying to clean mine up. I don't have any seat, or wind screen on mine, long lost before me, although I have a rough looking floor. I can provide pics and measurements if you require them still ?

Hi there

Yes I do need the measurements. I bought a floor on EBay recently but it was for an S250. As I have one of those & it was only £20 I wasn't too bothered.
If you could have a measure up & post on here it would be appreciated.

I've scoured the internet every now & then but floor measurements are hard to find.
