Avon R2-80 floor rails?

Great forum, and have read thro about 20 pages of posts!

I just bought this Avon, which is from 1985 I think- the serial number ends 85.
It's in overall good condition with no patches, and holds air, so have struck well for the price. It's going to be a river boat, and used with my 3hp Yam, and also a classic Chrysler 4.5.

Can anyone tell me if the wooden floor should have side rails? And also, would there be any benefit in fitting a pair?

I've an idea that some Alu or plastic channel would do a super job.
I'll try to get a photo posted... I love the Chrysler twin, but going to try for an 8hp too.

There are pictures around here from the owners manual of a similar craft somewhere showing side rails.
It will stiffen the floor if you install them, I have run my avon without them for two years with no major problems mind you that was always on smooth water.
In two foot waves the lack of rigidity did not help at all
