This is strictly black bear country, where for the most part if you take basic precautions such as keeping a very clean camp, cooking at some distance from your sleeping area and hanging your food high in an airtight container, you should be OK. Never bring food into your tent. I do carry a can of bear spray (cayenne pepper) with me as a precaution - not as effective as a firearm, but within Manitoba's provincial parks, you are only allowed to have firearms with you during big game seasons.

If I were in Grizzly or Polar bear territory, I would definitely keep a firearm with me. Ideally a 12 guage loaded with slugs & 00 shotshells alternating.

Nice one Glaerox. That looks to be a carp of some type. Are they a popular fish to eat in the Netherlands? I've read that there are alot of huge Northern Pike are in some of the waters of the Netherlands.

Yes, it is a sort carp, in dutch called: blankvoorn. englisch called roach or minnow (wikipedia). The most fish are all set back to water after catching. They taste like sh*t But all the polish people how work here, catch them and eat them. At the moment there are so many polish people fishing in the dutch waters, that soms fish getting very rare!

There sure swims a lot of pike in the dutch waters. And they could get about 1.40! the largest I ever catcht was about 1.15. The beast cut trough my metal underline after getting it on shore!

The last 10 years i did not fish on pike anymore bu with my new boat i sure will try it soon!

looks more like a fish that we call chub, than a roach, similar fish but bigger and with a wider mouth and definitely not similar to an english minnow, they rarely get bigger than two or three inches

no fish

I know about overfishing coming from Newfoundland and the cod moratorium. Itís a shame that people will push the fish stock to the brink of collapse. I was surprised when I was in Holland 6-8 months ago we came across a small fishing fleet and when I asked the weight of there catch they told me 1 hundred pounds. I am use to the weight in 5 tons and up. Now I live in Ontario and boat and sport fish in Lake Simcoe but some thing has happened there and the Carp and some sport fish are dying by the thousands. It seems to be the times we live in and itís a bet scary.
