A new convert

Met up with my mate young Chris this morning for his introduction to SIB fishing. Although he's owned boats all his life, he'd never tried an easy to launch small inflatable. So he bought a Yam 300s and a 6hp Tohatsu and was raring to go fishing.

Last minute checks before launching.




After an easy launch, and wheels up Chris was soon on his way. I clocked him planing along at about 14mph, quite fast enough he reckoned. After a 10 minute run we where on our first mark, and Chris soon christened his boat.




My first fish followed soon after, a nice little Wrasse.



Which went back to fight another day. Ballast not to be outdone then landed a decent codling;




A few more followed and I thought we where in for a bumper day. But as the tide slackened the fish went off and all but disappeared over slack water.

A quick move to another spot Saw a flurry of fish when the tide turned . But all to soon, it was time to head back.




Even though it was an overcast day, the winds stayed light and the rain stayed away for the most part. An enjoyable day for all, with a few fish thrown in for good measure.







Definitely a new convert .

14 mph on a 6 hp outboard? That is quite cool!

From what I've seen in pics from the UK you fish mostly codling. Is that related to the type of fishing you practice or because it's a really common species?

Totally agree, I'm fortunate in that I can usually get out when the weather gods give us a break (which is not very often up in the north east) to launch the SIB. So I don't mind taking a few photos and giving a report for those stuck in 9 to 5 jobs who struggle to get out.

Cod's the main target in the North East over the rough ground and wrecks, but their are plenty of other species as well, Such as Ling, Pollock, Bass, Mackerel, Coalies and Wrasse. When the water clears a bit more we'll start to target the Pollock and Bass on lures.

Not much different from Portugal, but here we don't have those fish from the cod family. Which is odd since cod is very very popular in here!

What we fish mainly here is bream, gilthead bream, porgy, mackerel, coalies, needlefish, bass, etc.

I'm really looking forward to take my sib for the first time to do some fishing.

hey..you get great sardines there too Amukinado .. I love them and mackerel ..but give me a sea trout over a cod any day. Great catch though Stray..not so many Cod caught where I fish..either that or Im not doing it right

Had a couple of hours out this morning. It was very slow going. With Loads of marks showing on the Fish finder I thought the Mackerel had arrived, so I dropped a string of Daylights down, turned out it was shoals of small Billet (Coleys), I was bringing them up 3 and 4 at a time.
I decided to head for a favorite mark, but the rain came a tumbling down, so with more rain forecast, I called it a day.
Just got the boat back on the drive and the bl00dy sun's come out.
Typical.

Dav, Tuesday's looking OK, if you can't do Monday. Keep an eye on the forecast.

I'll probably head out again tomorrow morning. Saturday and Sunday might be too much swell to beach launch. It doesn't take much to put me off.
